Memorial Hospital West Installs NicView Cameras In Nurseries Connecting Families Worldwide
Tiny cameras placed at the beds located in the Newborn Nurseries and Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Memorial Hospital West’s Family Birthplace are bringing instant connections among families worldwide through a secured web based system that can be accessed through various electronic devices. The secured camera system, known as NicView, allows families of newborn babies born through surgical births to watch their infants just moments after birth while mom is in recovery. The system allows parents to log in from home computers, tablets, and smartphones and watch a live video stream projected from a camera above the baby’s bed. The live feeds have no sound and are used on a secure internet line that is designed to preclude recording by a parent or the hospital. Parents receive a password to log onto the system, which can be passed to other family members and friends helping families bond and spread their newborn news from the nurseries to families all around the world. “The installation of these cameras enhances patient- and family-centered care that is so vital at Memorial Healthcare System,” said Mary Bridget Roberts Ed.D. ARNP, NE-BC, Director of Nursing, Memorial Hospital West Family Birthplace. “Patients and families are thrilled to have the ability to see their newest family member via a password protected system that allows parents and extended family members 24/7 access to the new bundle of joy.” Since the installation of NicView on February 23, families have shared their baby’s video streams with families and friends in more than 10 different countries and over 15 states around the nation. More than 575 users have logged into the system by parents and families.
