Sofia’s Memorial Experience Advocacy at the heart of patient- and family-centered care.
Sofia was born at Memorial Hospital West with Pierre Robin Sequence, a condition affecting the head and face, consisting of a small lower jaw (micrognathia), a tongue that is placed further back than normal (glossoptosis), and an opening in the roof of the mouth (a cleft palate). Sofia was rushed to the NICU at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital where the team worked with her parents to help Sofia progress rapidly through all of the milestones she needed to meet in order to go home. The connection between Sofia’s caregivers and her family continues today
