Cancer Patient Had Angel On Her Side Stronger Together
Dear Memorial Healthcare System, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Many months leading up to that moment, I was feeling generally unwell, so I was more than overwhelmed when I was confronted with the earth-shattering diagnosis. I cried until I had no more tears left, wondered “Why me?” and had all those negative thoughts. Fortunately, I discovered a group of fine people at Memorial who have helped me navigate my way to the point of surgery, which was the next big event after the biopsy. The steps leading to surgery were not all cut-and-dry. Things needed to be done a certain way and within a specific timeframe, at many different locations. I met a fine person I came to refer to as “my angel.” She is Daisy Mesa with South Broward Community Health Services. Daisy understood what it meant to be confronted with my dreaded disease, and she understood the urgency and speed needed to deal with matters regarding a cancer patient — given the fact that it is most important to get it out of your body ASAP. She began by using her angel powers to lay the foundation for me to see various health professionals before my surgery. She discovered that one appointment scheduled after the surgery needed to be expedited before surgery. My angel, Daisy, put on her roller skates, worked her magic, and got it done! Then, the day before surgery, the surgeon’s office still needed necessary paperwork to perform the surgery. Daisy and her team got it done! Words cannot express my appreciation and feelings of joy and gratitude toward Daisy, who not only did her job well, but very well. Needless to say, any expectations I had were exceeded. I am sure that, behind the scenes, she jumped many hurdles to achieve her objectives; however, she still found time to share many words of encouragement with me. This helped increase my faith and uplifted me at a time in my life when it was really scary and so easy for sadness and depression to set in.
