Memorial Transparency Program
Memorial Healthcare System is among the first in the South Florida market to publish online information that provides consumers with self-pay rates for distinct medical procedures and quality and safety data. The quality and safety results are available on each facility and for common adult and pediatric cardiac procedures.
By the end of 2015, Memorial aims to publish selected data on neuroscience, rehabilitation and oncology. “This initiative provides consumers a level of healthcare transparency that shows honest, accurate information about the cost of healthcare services,” said President and Chief Executive Officer Frank V. Sacco of Memorial Healthcare System. “We have a moral and ethical imperative to help patients make the best healthcare decisions for themselves and their families,” he added. Memorial began publishing self-pay rates in December 2014 in its public site mhs.net, followed by quality and safety data in April 2015. It has kept adding information for consumers ever since. The currently published self-pay rates vary in complexity from a simple blood test to a C-section or bariatric surgical procedures. The quality and safety information is organized in three different categories that provide a user-friendly approach to understanding the data. These categories include: patient satisfaction, showcasing patient experience; quality and safety, providing Memorial’s effectiveness and safety of common procedures; and Memorial system and facility volumes, exhibiting number of visits to the emergency department, inpatient and outpatient surgeries.
