Parkinson’s Deep Brain Stimulation at Memorial Neuroscience Institute
Howard Kreger, MD, Neurologist, explains Parkinson’s disease, symptoms and how he treats Parkinson’s through deep brain stimulation at Memorial Neuroscience Institute.
Dr. Kreger says deep brain stimulation is actually brain surgery, typically conducted when Parkinson’s can no longer be effectively treated with medications. During surgery wires are implanted into the brain and connected to a generator box in the chest, kind of like a pacemaker. That box supplies an electric current up into the brain that alleviates the symptoms of Parkinson’s.
